2008 Indoor County Closed Tournament

This year’s indoor County Closed Tournament took place at the Dragon Tennis Centre from the 7th to 9th March.

Play began on Friday night with a full round of men’s singles. By the end of play on Saturday all finals had been decided except the men’s singles.

Sunday morning began with both semi finals. Number 1 seed Ryan Fern (Truro) played number 3 seed Dan Mock (Penzance).Fern won comfortably 6-1, 6-1. The other semi-final was between Number 2 seed Adam Hayward (Truro) and number 4 seed Simon Blatchford (Bodmin). Again the match went with seeding Hayward winning 6-1, 6-2. In the final Fern beat Hayward 6-3, 6-3, taking his eleventh indoor title.

The ladies final was between juniors Claire Tresidder (Truro) and Sarah Arnold (Penzance). Sarah put up a good fight but Claire proved too strong, taking her first indoor title 6-2, 6-3.

Both the men’s and ladies doubles finals then finished off the day. Ryan Fern and Dan Mock beat Adam and Luke Hayward 6-1,6-2. Claire Tresidder and Sarah Arnold beat Dory Crellin and Vicki Terry-Short 6-3, 6-1.

The men’s consolation event was won by Nathan Gilbert (Truro) beating Oliver Bent (Truro) 6-1, 6-1. Dory Crellin (Truro) beat Emma Bellringer 6-0, 6-3 in the Ladies consolation.

Prizes were presented by Sue Eames Chairman of Tennis Cornwall.
