Truro’s very own national grade 3 open had another successful year with over 170 competitors playing over 200 events in 7 days. The weather did not blight the players' spirits, and again the Cornish players were amongst the top of the country, reaching final stages in most of the events.
The “Taylor mini events” were won by Truro’s Rose Pringle. The U9s was won by Toby Samuel, and Ben Samuel won against Lukas Raasch in the U10s after a they met Tim Rutherford and Freddie Stone in the semis. The U10 girls saw rising star Anya Gough getting to the final against Luz Esperanza- Merry, with Luz just proving her strength at the end.
In the U12s, Oshi Leverton and Kieran Roskell-Thomas reached the semis, with Oshi winning through to a final against top national from Middlesex, Louis Newman, who proved to be the winner. In the U12 girls. Nadia Rawson was unlucky, and the trophy went to Sally Atkinson, the second seed. Congratulations also to Ellie White of Truro who won the Consolation event.
In the U14 boys, Truro’s Kieron Butter beat the No 3 seed from Avon 6-1 6-1, and Isabella Brown from Devon won the U14 girls. The U16 boys was an all Cornish affair with James Woods defeating Ben Ward. The U16 girls was also all Cornish with Amy Johns beating India Rojano in the final. The U14 boys doubles was won by Fin Leverton and Erik Wilson, and the girls was won by Amy Johns and Nadia Rawson after a semi against Truro’s Morwenna Hibbert and Ellie White.
The U18s and Men’s singles were both won by Dan Elston, who then partnered Alex Richards and to win the Men’s doubles against the strong Avon pairing of Henry Ogden and Kieran Hawkins. The ladies Singes was won by Truro’s Clare Hudson, who also went on to doubles success with partner Vicki Terri-Short.
Truro’s success continued Kieron Butter gaining a ranking of 650 in Europe and reaching the last 16 at the prestigious national Road to Wimbledon.
And, finally, at the Newquay County Closed, Truro's Kieron Butter won both the U14’s and U16’s boys singles events.
