Ladies National Club League 2007

The Truro NCL team was in National Division 1 this season facing teams from David Lloyd Cardiff, Torquay, Esportia Devonshire in Plymouth and Newquay.

The first match was at home against Torquay with Helen Stubbs, Clare Hudson, Claire Tresidder and Sophie Weedon playing for Truro. In the fist round of singles, Helen Stubbs was forced to retire against her opponent Kendall Brown, and the match host Dory Crellin took her place. The match ended in Truro’s favour.

The next fixture was against David Lloyd Cardiff again at Truro. The team was Clare Hudson, Dory Crellin, Sophie Weedon and Claire Tresidder. After the singles and two doubles matches had been played, the score was 3-3. This led to a tie-break shoot out, Clare and Sophie played the singles and those finished one all. Claire and Dory then went on to play the deciding 10 point tie-break doubles shoot out which they won, therefore ensuring victory for Truro.

The next fixture was away at Esportia Devonshire and the same team travelled to Plymouth to play on their impressive indoor courts. After the four singles and two doubles matches were complete the result was again 3-3. So another tie-break shoot out followed. This time though the Plymouth players were a little too strong and narrowly beat the Truro team.

Truro’s last fixture was against Newquay but unfortunately the Newquay captain could not get a team out on the day so all the points went to Truro.

The Truro team finished second overall in the group with David Lloyd Cardiff winning and gaining promotion to National Division 2. The Truro ladies will be playing in the same division for the 2008 season.

Thanks go to captain Clare Hudson for her organisation and continued enthusiasm, and to the team players Helen Stubbs, Dory Crellin, Sophie Weedon and Claire Tresidder for their efforts.
