With the minis setting the standard for the week, we were not let down in the Tony Pryce Cup U12’s event with a stunning match between Louis Newman, (Middlesex) and Finn Bass (Gosling). in the Boys singles, Louis won in two sets. The Girls was won by Sally Atkinson and the Runner Up was Octavia Cavill.
In the Consolation rounds, the winners were Oshi Leverton (Cornwall) and Ellie White (TLTC Cornwall). In the Lillicrap Chilcott U14s Trophy it was a Cornwall dominated fixture, the boys event was a large draw of 64 with the final between Cornwall’s Joel Jones and James Woods. Joel showed once again his dominating presence on court with a smooth match and clear victory against James Woods at 6-1, 6-2.
The girls was a closer contest with Cornwall’s Amy Johns and Alisa Cole, Amy won this 6-3, 6-4. Girls Doubles was won by the Cornwall pair Amy Johns and Alisa Cole, and Boys Doubles was won by James Woods (Cornwall) and Tom Crothers (Staffs).
The Jackson-Stops & Staff U16s Trophies were well contested with strong matches throughout and again Cornwall’s Athena Chrysanthou (TLTC, Gosling Academy) showed her strong form beating the No1 seed from Gloucester Laura Eales in a well played hard fought match 6-3, 7-5, Boys event was a stunning final with Cameron Hogg No 3 seed just beating Alex El-Nemer No 5 seed 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(3). India Rojano (Cornwall) won the Girls Consolation and Joel Jones (Cornwall) won the boys event against Kieron Butter (TLTC Cornwall) 6-3, 6-2.
Truro and Penwith College once again sponsored the U18’s events which always provides some of the strongest matches of the week and this year was no exception with the Girls being won by Athena Chrysanthou (Cornwall TLTC) and the boys again going 3 sets to Alex El-Nemer against Channel Islands player, Daniel Harrison. The finals ended with the fast paced and highly entertaining Truro & Penwith College U18’s Boys Doubles With TLTC’s Huw Vicary and Kieron Butter against Cornwalls Reece Munnery and Channel Islands, Daniel Harrison the game was a thriller with the TLTC boys only narrowly losing in the 3rd set tiebreak, 6-7(6), 6-3, (10-7)
The senior events were won by Cornwall’s Charlotte Pinch, men’s Thomas Jones, and in the mixed event TLTC’s Dory Crellin and Rob Williams beat fellow club members Juliette Walters and Matt Roberts.
